Family Night Fun with Kitchen Table Passport

Here at the Creative Family household, we're big fans of family night. In fact, the whole purpose of this blog is to encourage families and to give you great ideas for family times. So when Kitchen Table Passport contacted me about reviewing their product, I had to say yes.

Kitchen Table Passport is monthly subscription box designed to help you explore a new corner of the world. They give you everything you need for a themed dinner. Our box was all about Japan.

Disclosure: Kitchen Table Passports provided me a product in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

What do you get in your monthly box? You'll get an introduction card to help walk you through the process and to learn a little about the country and the dish you will be cooking. There is also a QR code which links you to a Spotify playlist of music from that country. There is also an easy-to-follow recipe card, a spice packet, 10 amazing discovery cards with full-color photos, and a small packet of souvenirs (only available in single box purchases or the 6 and 12 month subscriptions).

The food. Oh, the food! Our Japanese dish was a Yakitori-style Chicken Rice Bowl. Kitchen Table Passport made it so easy. They adapted the recipe to make it easy to cook in any kitchen. They provided a shopping list and a supply list. I had all the supplies I needed. (They're basic supplies. I bet you have all of them too!) And, I only needed to go shopping for a few things: boneless, skinless chicken thighs, snow peas, and green onions. I had everything else already in my cupboards. The ingredients should be easy to find in any store.

You know what I loved about Kitchen Table Passport? They send you all the spices you will need. The spices are the one thing that could be hard to find in many grocery stores. Luckily, you don't have to go search for them. You'll get authentic flavor and a fun mixture of hard-to-find spices. We had enough to make the meal at least twice.

Since it was a Saturday and a beautiful day, we decided to try out the optional traditional street-style preparation for the chicken. My husband loves any excuse to grill and the results were worth it! Yum! The girls were declaring this the best chicken ever - and I agree. It was that good.

We turned on the music from the Spotify playlist and sat down to eat. While we were eating, we went through the discovery cards. Each card had a question on the front that got everyone talking. The back of each is full of fun facts. We had such a delightful evening learning about Japan through all of our senses - sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch. The girls didn't want the evening to end. They listened to the music over and over the rest of the evening.

Would I recommend Kitchen Table Passport? Absolutely, 100%, yes! The food was easy to prepare and every little detail was taken care of. It's definitely worth the price. It's suitable for families with all ages of kids. If you're looking for an easy way to have a family adventure, this is it. We can't wait to try it again.
