Disappearing Spelling Words

Practice spelling words by writing them on coffee filters, then making them disappear.

Ask you kids if they want to make their spelling words disappear. What do you think they'd say? I can imagine lots of grins and giggles.

With this activity, we're going to do things a bit different and practice our spelling words by making them disappear. I promise your kids are going to have fun with this!

To set-up: You will need coffee filters, washable markers, newspaper, and a spray bottle filled with water.

Have your child write their spelling words on the coffee filter with the washable markers. You will need to use washable markers (don't get out your Sharpies!) to get the words to disappear. This step, quite frankly, is the practice part. The rest is all for fun - a bonus for writing out all your spelling words.

Lay down newspaper and set your coffee filters on top. This will get quite wet and messy, and the colors will bleed, so use something to protect your table.

Now, it's time for fun. Spray, spray, and spray the coffee filters with water until the spelling words disappear. If you're lucky, you might get some pretty tie-dyed coffee filters. But, one thing your guaranteed of is a whole lot of fun!

The next time your child needs to practice spelling words, tell them to make their words disappear!
